Education and professional qualification
Essential: Level 2-3 childcare qualification. A good working knowledge of the statutory framework, development statements and safeguarding. GCSE maths and English grade A-C
Desirable: Current paediatric first aid certificate. Safeguarding training.
Responsible to: manager, deputy manager, room leader

Job Purpose
To enable children to engage in a range of play and learning opportunities and meet their individual needs. To support the room leader and nursery manager providing and maintaining a high-quality service for children and their families. Support the day to day running of the setting working as part of a team with other staff and in partnership with parents.

Previous Essential Experience
Working as a key person. Liaising with parents. maintaining learning journals. Observation Assessment and Planning. Working within setting policies.

Key Skills and responsibilities
• Commitment to the protection and safeguarding of children and young people and adhering to setting policies.
• Adhering to the policies and procedures of Summertime Nursery in compliance with the Children’s Act, Health and Safety legislation and within the Statutory Framework of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
• Always maintaining confidentiality.
• Ensure that a high level of safety is maintained at all times, completing regular risk assessments and reporting any risks to the manager.
• Keep records of incidents and accidents that occur
• Ensure the care and cleanliness of rooms, including toys and equipment, laundry and kitchen duties
• Value and respect individual views and the needs of others developing an environment which is inclusive, working together as part of a team which recognises and encourages diversity, equal opportunities, listening to others views and sharing ideas.
• Work collaboratively and supportively with colleagues within the organisation and with relevant external professionals.
• Work in partnership with children’s parents/carers to identify the child’s interests and needs so this can be used when supporting and planning for each individual child.
• To assume responsibility for key children ensuring their development is tracked and their learning journals updated and that each child is making progress and identifying any barriers to learning.
• To have an ability to work calmly and well under pressure.
• Manage time effectively.
• Work within organisational Policies and Procedures meeting the standards required by the role and supporting other staff to adhere to them.
• Maintain a high standard within the room showing commitment to interact with children, review displays, resources and room layout with the team.

• Lead others with confidence, sensitivity and respect.
• To plan and deliver a wide range of activities to meet the children’s needs, observe and assess for their next steps in accordance with the EYFS.
• To keep and maintain records such as health and safety checks.
• Assist in organising outings including risk assessments.
• Ensure all statutory requirements are met and discuss any problems with the room leader and nursery manager.
• To represent the setting professionally at all time, maintaining the settings integrity.
• Adhere to dress code and ensure appropriate behaviour is maintained when in uniform outside of the nursery.
• To attend and update paid training and team meetings.
• To undertake any other duties as reasonably directed by the manager, deputy manager or trustees.
This role requires bending, kneeling and crouching for periods of time and involves lifting and holding children during activities. To ensure the children have fresh air and outside play you will be required to also work outside at times during the day.

Summertime Nursery and Preschool are seeking to appoint a flexible and motivated individual to become part of our committed and friendly staff team.
The position will include one early start 7:30am and one late finish 6pm. You will be provided with a uniform and paid for any additional training hours. The ideal candidate must hold a relevant level 2 or 3 childcare qualification and have previous experience of working with babies from 6 months to 4-year-old.

Description
• Level 3 early years education and childcare qualification or equivalent.
• Proven experience of working in a nursery setting, with babies and young children.
• Sound knowledge of the EYFS development statements and guidance is essential.
• Sound understanding of child development, and of children’s needs.
• Ability to plan and implement a pre-school curriculum, taking into account the SEN Code of Practice, child protection procedures and equal opportunities’ considerations.
• Demonstrable and detailed knowledge of current legislation relevant to the early years.
• Ability to work with parents and families to encourage their involvement.
• Ability to write clear observations and summaries.
• Ability to work as a key worker for a small group of children and parents.
The position will allow the successful candidate to be involved in enriching the lives of children and families in an established and popular nursery situated on the premises of the Thomas Hardye School.
